29th Annual Hunter Pace

South Farm will proudly host its 29th annual Hunter Pace October 5th. 2008. The Hunter Pace is a course both on the flat and over fences, over approximately 4 to 5 miles thru scenic Amish country. Pairs of 2 or teams of 3 on horse back, will navigate thru a very well marked course and try to arrive and the ideal hunters pace.  This is the pace that fox hunters might travel to or from a fixture, and some of the pace might be set for what you would expect on the hunt itself. For example, in open hay fields, one would canter or hand gallop. When going thru the woods, naturally you would slow to a trot, and if trying to cross a ditch or a more difficult area, you would be expected to walk.  When all the riders have finished their course, the ideal time is given and the teams are awarded. South Farm awards teams thru 10th place, and we have recently added a Trail Riders Division.  This division is meant for Riders to walk at a leisurely pace and enjoy the scenery.
