Lesson Program

As of January, 2004, South Farm no longer has any school horses available for walk in lessons. With the addition of Shirly Kopus and Stephanie Portman, there are many instructors to choose from if you own your own horse.  Call us or e-mail Sarah at swgreer@southfarm.net to inquire about dressage, eventing or jumping lessons. We have also offered a Summer Camp program whose goal is to get you prepared to enter an event at South Farm. South Farm is a fun and active location to learn everything about horses and competing that you need to know to compete in Nothern Ohio!

Stefanie Portman has been teaching and riding professionally since she was 18 years old. She was the first member of her family to get interested in horses and riding. She got her mount Aziza, a pony who Stefanie showed short stirrup on. After that Stefanie was off to the races, first hunters/jumpers, and then it was anything goes as long as she was on the back of a horse.  Stefanie trains horses both on the flat and over fences and has gotten many horses started under saddle.  Stefanie currently is showing horses for a number of clients, and has a number of horses in training. Stefanie competes hunters/jumpers and eventin and is a longtime  member of USEF, USEA, and OPHA.  Stefanie has been coaching riders both young and old, and she teaches lessons both private and group.

Shirley Kopas has been teaching and training horses for as long as she can remember. Growing up in PA near Philidelphia in horse country she was a young pony club member. After college and starting her young family, Shirley really started building her business in North Eastern Ohio of teaching and training Horses and Riders of all ages. Shirley has students riding at all levels from short stirrup to Medal Classes, she is a gifted teacher who students gives attention and patience to all. Shirley is a long time member of USEF and OPHA.

South Farm has lessons available for every one.  From the novice beginner, to the serious rider competing at upper levels. The rates are slightly different for each instructor, therefore it is best to call and set up a session and get the detailed price information then.

The lesson program stays active all year round.  With spacious indoor riding arena (80x180) and a heated viewing area, the students can remain active in bad weather.  During most of the months of the year, the students can enjoy a variety of outdoor arenas, and a cross-country course that features at least 60 obstacles.  For an occasion break, South Farm has miles of trails that are beautifully maintained.

As an added bonus, South Farm has added a few schooling horse shows for its students that run through out the year.  This gives the students a chance to demonstrate their skills, and a chance to meet others.
